At the end of 2008 were registered 15.4 thousend corporate and 14.0 thousens individual enterprises in the national economy of transport and storage. Compared to 2004 has halved the number of individual companies that was partly compansated with the 22 % increase of the number of corporate enterprises. Almost the three-quarters of the companies are transporter, whose nearly half part is a private enterprise. More than 10 % of the logistical suppliers provides the transport companies and 6 % the postal-courier companies. Nowadays remained barely a dozen of companies which are in the ownership of the Hungarian State. The biggest hungarian owned enterprises (groups) (Hungarian Post Co, Waberer's, MASPED group) are still lagging behind the european competitors also in income of prices and their sizes too. In the national market are present the foreign suppliers too, such as the Austrian (Hödlmayr, Lagermax, Gebrüder Weiss), the German (DPWN, DB-Schenker, Logwin, Dachser), the Dutch (TNT, Vos), the French (Geodis, Giraud),
the Italian (Catone, Prioglio), the American (Expeditors, UPS), the British (Wincanton, Eurogate) and the Swiss (Kühne-Nagel) company (ies).
A relatively high concentration charachterizes the rail, pipeline and air transport. In other segments of the market the monopoly has been rarely shown (eg. until 2013 the trasmission of letters under 50 grams), especially oligopolistic or strong market (price) competition is characterized with certain limitations (such as the cabotage derogation until 1th May 2009). A significant part of the logistical activities is capital-intensive, which needs both physical and relational capital too, so boots the role of the big companies.
The logistical suppliers employed in 2007 more than 160 thousand people. The most important employers were the MAV, Hungarian Post, the road transporter ( 41 thousand people ) and the transporter ( 15 thousand people ).
